Protect Your Home & Auto

Auto Insurance

Although many people may not realize it, there are several important considerations when purchasing car insurance. Things to remember include:

  • Make sure you purchase enough liability insurance to adequately protect you. Companies that allow you to ‘choose your price’ simply mean that you are picking substandard coverage.
  • Pick an agent who will be available for you in case of an emergency. All the major companies have a 24 hour a day number, but how many agents provide you with a cell phone number so you can contact them directly?
  • Review your policy annually. Things change in your life, and what worked for you last year may need to be adjusted this year.

Condo Insurance

Condominiums need adequate insurance coverage, just as homes do. Things to keep in mind when considering a policy include:

  • Most condo policies have very low coverage for the actual dwelling itself. Even if you only need to repair from the sheetrock in, it can get very pricey between cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc.
  • It’s important to keep an inventory of your personal belongings in case of a claim. It will make the claims process easier and faster when you already know what is damaged or missing.

Homeowner Insurance

For most people, their home is the biggest investment they will ever make. Making sure you have adequate protection on yours is vital. There are several important things to consider when preparing to purchase a homeowners insurance policy:

  • Make sure to talk through every possible coverage with your agent. Each insurance policy is different and covers different things.
  • Ask how your belongings are covered, especially in regards to theft.
  • If you have large collections of high-priced collectibles such as jewelry or firearms, keep an inventory and find out about specific coverages for those collections.
  • There are different coverages and policies for homes which are leased to relatives or others. Make sure to let your agent know if you are not the primary resident of the home.

Renters Insurance

Most people don’t think about obtaining insurance when they are renting. However, the property owner’s insurance does not usually cover your personal belongings. So in case of fire, theft, water damage, etc., you would be responsible for replacing everything you own.

Also, if you cause damage to the property, even accidentally, you can be held liable. For example, if you leave a candle burning and it somehow catches your apartment on fire, perhaps even the apartments around you, you could be responsible for all of the repair costs.

Boat Insurance

Boats are significant assets, and insuring them properly is important. Things to consider when purchasing your boat insurance include:

  • Make sure you purchase enough liability insurance to adequately protect you. Companies that allow you to ‘choose your price’ simply mean that you are picking substandard coverage.
  • Ask about coverage for your optional and custom equipment. If you have fishing gear or other equipment, ask how that will be covered in the case of a loss.
  • Boat policies provide actual cash value coverage. Because the value of boats changes so frequently, it’s important to review your policy annually to update the insurance. You don’t want to pay insurance for an amount you will never receive.
  • Your boat trailer is not usually covered automatically. Be sure to let your agent know how much your trailer is worth.

We recommend the following limits and your quote will include these:

  • $300,000 liability
  • $1,000 medical payments
  • $250 deductible
  • $250 trailer deductible

Motorcycle Insurance

When purchasing insurance for your motorcycle, it’s important to consider the following:

  • Make sure you purchase enough liability insurance to adequately protect you. Companies that allow you to ‘choose your price’ simply mean that you are picking substandard coverage.
  • Ask about coverage for your optional and custom equipment. Your bike doesn’t look like everyone else’s. Make sure your coverage is also custom.
  • Theft and vandalism coverage is not always included. Discuss with your agent what is most important to you when it comes to covering your bike.

We recommend the following limits and your quote will include these:

  • $250,000/$500,000 per person/per accident liability limits
  • $100,000 property damage liability
  • $500 collision deductible
  • $100 comprehensive deductible
  • Towing

Protect Your Family

Accident Insurance

An accident can wreak havoc on your savings if you’re not prepared. That’s why there’s accident insurance. It gives you a cushion to help cover medical expenses and living costs when you get hurt unexpectedly. On average, there are 11 unintentional-injury deaths and about 2,330 disabling injuries every hour during the course of a year. Nearly 1 in 8 people sought medical attention or suffered at least one day of activity restriction because of an injury.

Accident insurance can pay you a lump sum benefit for either on or off-the-job accidental injuries, plus some medical benefits. Because accident insurance is supplemental, it works in addition to other insurance you may have. You can use the policy on its own, or to fill a gap left by your other coverage.

With Accident Insurance You Can Have Peace of Mind Knowing:

  • Benefits are paid directly to you unless assigned
  • Benefits are paid regardless of other coverage

Life Insurance

Insuring your life is one of the most important protections you will ever put in place for your family. There are several things to be sure to consider:

  • Having coverage through your employer is not always enough. Most companies only allow up to three times your annual salary, which will most likely not be enough to ensure your family’s continued standard of living.
  • If you purchased life insurance in the past, it’s important to note that mortality rates have changed. It’s possible you are paying too much. Make sure to review your policy every 1-2 years to verify you are getting the best price and still have the right amount of coverage.
  • If you think you are too young for life insurance, it’s the perfect time to buy. Rates will be at the lowest of your life, and since life is unpredictable, at any point you could become uninsurable. Many medical conditions aren’t age specific – how many people do you know under the age of forty who have been diagnosed with cancer? These things happen every day and it’s important to know your current and future loved ones are protected.

There are many types of life insurance to choose from.  Our experts can help you determine what is right for you.

Umbrella Insurance

We have found Umbrella insurance to be the least known policy in personal insurance, and yet, it’s the absolute most important policy you can own.

Accidents happen. And unfortunately, sometimes the costs can exceed your auto or home policy limits. A liability umbrella insurance policy works as a protective umbrella over both your auto and home insurance to guard your current assets, as well as what you are working towards. Policies start in increments of $1 million in coverage and can cost as little as $15 a month.

Important things to remember while considering a liability umbrella insurance policy:

  • Auto and home insurance often don’t cover certain types of incidents such as slander. But a liability umbrella can.
  • You won’t have to go to court alone. Your insurance company will retain and pay for a lawyer to represent you.
  • Even if you could afford to pay the costs of a lawsuit, would you really want to? Think about putting an Umbrella policy in place today.

Workplace Benefits

Workplace Benefits, also known as supplemental insurance, fills the void of significant gaps commonly left by traditional insurance policies. The supplemental insurance provides extra money to help pay out-of-pocket expenses. These policies work well when paired with health insurance or car insurance policies. Anyone with medical coverage should consider one of these supplemental policies. People on Medicare can benefit as well, for cases where Medicare doesn’t provide the proper coverage.

The major benefit of this policy is that it keeps you from having to pay high out-of-pocket costs. With good coverage, you might not have to make any additional payments yourself. When you purchase one of these policies, make sure it is compatible with your current insurance. The policy should help pay for medical bills or other insurance payments not covered by your normal policies.
